Hévíz, Hungary, boasts the world’s largest natural thermal lake, famed for its therapeutic properties. Rich in minerals like calcium, magnesium, and sulfur, the thermal waters help alleviate inflammation, improve joint mobility, and relieve pain from arthritis and rheumatic conditions. The serene environment of Lake Hévíz enhances mental well-being, offering a holistic healing experience that rejuvenates both body and mind.
The program starts with an initial medical examination by one of our doctors, who will prescribe the course of treatment.
Mechanical therapy applied in our spa facilities uses various sorts of mechanical devices to improve your mobility (namely after injuries, operations or a stroke) or to facilitate your lymph and blood flow in case it is troublesome. Mechanical devices replace human power where it becomes easily exhausted or is very time-consuming, e.g. where a frequent monotonous movement is to be performed. The details are provided under individual methods.
A physiotherapist conducts all individual therapeutic exercise sessions as prescribed by a spa doctor. The therapy may include any of the following techniques: soft techniques, mobilisation, manipulation, visualisation, active muscle contraction, active assisted movements and free active movement. An inseparable part of these classes are breathing exercises in addition to training for balance, strength and flexibility.
Only a problematic part of the body is massaged during a partial massage using classical “Swedish type” manoeuvres (it may concern the back and neck, chest, arms or legs). In the case of varicose veins, the affected area of the legs cannot be massaged. The aim of classical massage is to stimulate blood circulation in specific areas, release muscle tension and improve the mobility of connective tissues and joints while using specific manoeuvres and massage oil or emulsion.
The most characteristic feature of mud/peat is its good heat storage and long cooling time. The temperature of the mud pack is usually 38-42°C, but the doctor can prescribe a different temperature. The mud pack is applied on the areas of the body and joints as specified by the doctor. The body is then wrapped into an insulating sheet and a dry linen sheet. After 20 minutes, the mud/peat is washed off, and a 15-minute dry body pack follows to complete the beneficial effects of the whole procedure.
The salt cave is a room constructed from natural salt blocks, and depending on the location, this salt can be imported from different sources. Single salt has an antibacterial effect; moreover, the salt ions help dissolve mucus, improve the function of the airway lining, and thus bring about a cleansing effect in the respiratory system. It is helpful for the treatment of chronic respiratory conditions or the sequelae of an acute respiratory infection and for boosting immunity in case of frequent respiratory infections.
Oxygen is inhaled through a soft and flexible tube leading into the nose whilst you sit comfortably in an armchair. The air being inhaled is enriched with about 40-60% oxygen at a reasonable level of humidity.
An increased supply of oxygen into the body enhances the immune system, improves heart activity and the elasticity of the lungs, helps the condition and efficiency of the mind and is excellent for overall health.
As the human body is composed on average of 60% water, it is a very good conductor of electric current. Electrotherapy uses various types of electric currents to influence the function of electroconductive tissues in the human body. Namely, the nerves and muscles are best treated with electricity. Connective tissues can also be beneficially affected by electrotherapy. Some currents that penetrate deep into the body may even positively influence the functions of certain inner organs (like the urinary bladder or large bowel). The currents used for healing have been carefully tested and proven to be safe and effective. We use either direct or alternating currents (of low, middle or high frequency) depending on the effect we need to achieve. Apart from the most widely used currents described below, there are many other types, and their application is up to the expertise and discretion of spa physicians and physiotherapists.
Hydrotherapy, the use of water for pain relief and treatment, has been practiced for centuries. This therapeutic method leverages the healing properties of water to improve physical and mental well-being. By utilizing different temperatures and water pressures, hydrotherapy can alleviate muscle tension, reduce stress, and enhance circulation. Common forms of hydrotherapy include hot and cold baths, steam baths, saunas, and whirlpools. Each method offers unique benefits. For instance, hot baths can relax muscles and ease joint pain, while cold baths can reduce inflammation and invigorate the body. Additionally, aquatic exercises in a pool provide low-impact resistance training, ideal for rehabilitation and fitness.Hydrotherapy is not only beneficial for physical ailments but also promotes mental relaxation. The soothing properties of water can help reduce anxiety and improve sleep quality. Embracing hydrotherapy can lead to a holistic approach to health and wellness.
Balneotherapy, the practice of bathing in mineral-rich waters for therapeutic purposes, has been a cornerstone of wellness for millennia. This ancient treatment harnesses the natural properties of mineral springs, thermal baths, and mud baths to promote health and alleviate various ailments. The minerals found in these waters, such as sulfur, magnesium, and calcium, are believed to offer numerous health benefits. For instance, sulfur baths can help with skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis, while magnesium-rich waters can ease muscle tension and improve circulation. Thermal baths, with their warm temperatures, are particularly effective in relieving arthritis and joint pain. Beyond physical benefits, balneotherapy also supports mental well-being. The serene environment of spa resorts and the soothing nature of warm baths contribute to stress reduction and improved sleep quality. By integrating balneotherapy into a wellness routine, individuals can experience a holistic approach to health and rejuvenation.
Traction in water uses the weight of the body, which is suspended by the neck (and below the armpits if necessary), in a special pool of thermal mineral water. Sometimes, additional weights are added around the waist, hips or feet to increase the stretching effect. The mechanical force (body weight) induces the stretching of the soft tissues (muscles, ligaments, sinews, joint capsules), with a constant and continuous pulling force during the traction. The treatment is prescribed by a medical doctor, performed by an experienced physiotherapist and lasts around 15 minutes. For a longer-lasting effect, the procedure is repeated daily for 2-3 weeks.
A variety of special cream packs is available for inflammatory and painful conditions. Generally, the cream is spread on the affected body part, which is covered with a special foil and kept warm with a blanket. These creams include Innoreuma, Antiphlogistin and sulphur, which have a chilling effect when applied to the skin.
They are also effective for anti-inflammation and pain relief. Likewise, the Ritex pack achieves the same effect, but creates a hot sensation when applied to the skin, which additionally helps blood circulation to the area.
