Laser eye surgery

How successful is the Laser Eye Correction?

Due to great improvements in the field of laser vision correction, the visual outcomes can be predetermined with great precision, especially in FemtoLasik. Therefore we can achieve excellent results. The results are permanent and future deterioration is rare. Deterioration of the eyesight can occur due to other reasons such as pregnancy, progressive myopia and other diseases of the eye that are not related to the laser correction such as cataracts and age macular retinal degeneration.

Will it hurt?

We anesthetize your eyes with eye drops before the laser vision correction, so there is no pain during the surgery.

There is no pain after FemtoLasik treatment.

For 2-3 days after the surface treatment (PRK) days mild pain, tingling, sensitivity to light may occur. Excessive tears and sensation of foreign body may also be present together with inability to open the eyes.  These symptoms can be relieved with analgesic tablets and eye drops.

Is it possible for my eyes to deteriorate?

In rare cases, the vision may deteriorate due to abnormal wound healing (in PRK).  Should this occur, a change of medication is done and if that does not work, re-treatment might be necessary.

What happens when I get older?

After the age of 40 – 45 the lens of the eye loses its elasticity, and reading glasses will be necessary. People over 40 having low level myopia should consider mono vision correction, so that they can read without glasses in older age.  Sooner or later however, the need for reading glasses might arise.

If the vision deteriorates, is it possible to repeat the surgery?

In general, yes, re-treatment is possible, but it depends on the thickness of the cornea, and the degree of the treated diopters.

What are the risks and what complications may occur after the surface and flap laser treatments?

Please refer to the risks and complications for Femtolasik and PRK.

When will I see clearly?

Postoperative visual acuity depends on the type of surgery. It takes 1-4 weeks in case of surface treatment (PRK), and one day for FemtoLasik.

Will both of my eyes be operated at the same time?

In both types of laser vision correction, flap or surface, both eyes are operated at the same time.

Am I allowed to give birth naturally after the surgery?

Yes, the laser treatment does not affect the way of delivery.

Will it hurt?

Anesthetic eye drops are used prior to RLE and Cataract surgery, which ensures numbness during the surgery. During the intervention a lot of fluid is used to remove the lens, and sometimes the patient may feel its flow and experience a slight pressure. A few days after surgery, up to the first week, minimal discomfort might be experienced, slight foreign body sensation may occur, but this does not significantly interfere with the continuation of the daily tasks.

Is it possible for my eyesight to deteoriate?

During the surgery we implant different types of lenses with specific diopters according to the needs of the patient. These lenses do not change after this, so we can say that these results are final.  Eyesight, however might deteriorate if a new unrelated eye condition arises such as diabetes, glaucoma or any other possible eye disease.

What happens when I get older?

The implanted IOL ensures stable vision in the long run. If the lens type is multifocal, the focusing ability is provided for three distances: near, intemediate, (distance from a computer monitor) and far distance, such as driving a car. This function does not depend on age, it is a final solution. Mono-vision IOLs provide clear vision only to a pre-planned distance, the IOL is not able to adapt. Therefore, patients implanted with these kind of IOLs need reading glasses.

If the vision deteoriates, is it possible to repeat the surgery?

After the IOL implant, vision deterioration does not occur unless new diseases develop in the eye. In the preoperative preparation the accurate lens design is essential. It is important that the doctor and the patient together choose and agree on which kind of IOL is recommended.

What are the risks and what complications may occur after RLE and Cataract Surgeries?

Will both of my eyes be operated at the same time?

In case of lens surgery we operate one eye at a time usually leaving a day or two in between.

Am I allowed to walk and exercise after surgery? When will I be allowed to do sports?

For a few days after surgery, caution is recommended, but after the recovery time discussed with your doctor you are allowed to exercise and do sports.
